Provide physically challenged people with the tools they need to pursue active lifestyles.
Raising $3,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation can provide two people with physical challenges the ability to participate in sports through a specialized wheelchair, training costs or travel expenses.
The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) provides opportunities and support to people with physical challenges, so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. CAF has played a pivotal role in not only changing the lives of tens of thousands challenged athletes globally, but in evolving the world's perception and acceptance of those with physical challenges.
CAF steps in where rehabilitation and health insurance ends by funding grants for adaptive sports equipment, training, and competition expenses directly to challenged athletes. In 2016, over 3.7 million dollars helped to deliver 2,098 grants to athletes. Grants support challenged athletes participate in sports such as:
- Adaptive Skiing
- Blind Bowling
- Cycling / Hand Cycling
- Wheelchair Basketball and Tennis
Some of CAFs program highlights from 2016 include:
- Operation Rebound which strengthens the mental and physical well-being of veterans and first responders with permanent physical injuries.
- The first ever Youth Paratriathlon Camp
- The first ever Word Adaptive Surfing Championship
